A short time before my MathWorks interview, I came across a video on TikTok about an AI Interview Assistant. The interviewer was asking questions while the AI was already generating answers in real time. It looked impressive, so I searched on Google and found two AI Interview Assistants that were said to work very well.

The first one I tried was Interviews Chat. I was confused as soon as I entered the product page. It was divided into three sections with over ten clickable buttons, and none of them had any explanation on how to use them. It was only after I entered that the product indicated the trial lasted just three minutes. I found a coding question, and after some effort, I finally got the AI to start answering, but two minutes had already passed. The answer was acceptable to me, but it ran inside the web page and didn’t allow me to share my full screen during a real interview, otherwise it would be exposed. With the remaining minute, I played an interview video on YouTube to see how it would respond to general questions, but this time I couldn’t find the button to make the AI answer. The trial ended like that, and I was still confused. The product was hard to use, had no onboarding guidance, and carried the risk of being detected at any time. That made me turn to try the second product.

The second one I tried was Linkjob AI. The product was clean and easy to understand, with four buttons that matched two main functions and two supporting ones. I cannot rely on the interviewer or platform not imposing such requirements, this is almost impossible.

It can be seen that although it provides many options, the process of using it becomes very complicated. Many features seemed unnecessary, such as adjusting text size or swapping the positions of the AI answers in two formats, which appeared to have no practical use. During the actual interview, I was so nervous that there was no time to check which format of the answer was better or which AI model’s answer fit my needs more closely.

In addition, significant problems occurred when using the auto mode for the AI to answer. The rightmost column in the screenshot shows the AI transcribing the upcoming questions from the interviewer, but it does not determine when the interviewer has finished asking a question. At first, I thought this was due to the continuous audio output because the video was not paused. However, even after pausing, it still did not generate an answer until the submit button was clicked manually. After restarting the playback, Interview Chat did not start a new chat to transcribe the questions, so the content kept accumulating, and it even interpreted intermediate advertisements as interviewer questions. Switching to manual mode resulted in the same problem, as the AI could not determine which sentence was the question, and the generated answers were completely unrelated to the questions.

Linkjob AI’s functionality is much more straightforward. The AI model is selected in advance, and during the interview, I only need to click one button for just one time. There are no additional operations required, and the AI handles everything that follows. When answering questions, the AI itself determines which answer format is better. It can automatically recognize the interviewer’s questions without any manual intervention. After the current question ends, it begins to automatically recognize the next question and provide an answer. All operations and content are displayed in the same answer panel. There are no unnecessary features, and everything is easy to understand.

Without involving any interaction, Interviews Chat’s answer generation works much better. By sharing the tab containing the question with the AI, clicking the eye icon to capture a screenshot, and then clicking the upload button, the process works.

However, because the AI and the question are on different tabs, it is necessary to switch back and forth between pages when writing code.
