Cluely Review for Job Interviews in 2026: a deep dive

Cluely AI is pretty good as a basic interview assistant, but it's got a few issues. There's some noticeable friction in interactions and it's a bit limited in how it can provide AI support during live interviews. For example, when I tried it out, I thought it was all over the place, the answers were too generic and the responses too short. Also, I got spotted in the test meetings when sharing my full screen.

After knowing all the Cluely limitations, I turned to search for better options. I scoured the internet for articles on the best Cluey alternatives. A comparison review of Cluey and other AI interview tools in the same tier was mentioned by one of them, so Parakeet AI review and Interview Coder review were also looked into by me.

Ultimately, I returned to the interview assistant recommended in the original article: Linkjob AI, which is another real-time interview copilot that helped me a lot when taking my coding interviews.

Cluely Features for Interviews & Real Performance in Tests

    Real-Time Answers & Follow-up Questions

After a few simple checks to see if it was working and some basic prompts, I started testing Cluely to see how good it is at helping with live interview meetings, which I think is the main reason people choose it.

Indeed, I know why people liked it:

    • The transcript text was accurate and could be read anytime I wanted

    • Answer generated in super quick speed, and related to the transcript & former prompt

    • Note-taking was incredibly easy and convenient, smooth and fine

But to be honest, despite all the advantages, it didn't really meet my expectations. Let me tell the details word by word.

a pic during screen sharing from my friend(Cluely was seen!)

During live interview tests, Cluely’s real-time answers were supposed to pop up right when I needed them, but in real-scenarios, I have to click one button called"What should I say?" or hit my keyboard to activate the hotkey. So the interview mock process wasn't so pleasant.

the "way too brief" answers from Cluely

As the pic shows, the answers were linked to the transcribing texts, but during the test, I chose two different videos to see if there was anything Cluely could do to be as they claimed"context aware", and there was not much difference between the two, let alone the "way too brief" answers.

    Detection Avoidance & Stealth

Unlike some other reviews, I successfully took a pic of the overlay and obviously, Cluely could be seen in the mode I tested. I thought it may have something to do with the latest "Undetectable mode", if you don't subscribe to that tier, then there was a chance to be detected during real interviews.

    Official Explanations from Cluely

According to the official documents, I learned that if the overlay could be seen in the screenshot, then it was detectable. Although Cluely claimed that only Windows 10 and macs from before 2022 are not compatible, my system was windows 11, so that's not a completely "invisible" promise for me. And btw, I was detected using it in my test interviews with my friend. I could not even think about what it would be like in real meetings.

other possible scenarios that Cluely would be seen

Some other AI interview copilots can be more powerful in preventing other platfrom detecting their apps, like Linkjob AI, one of the most reliable ones among all. When they were running, the whole process ran quietly and secretly; I could not even take a screenshot from Linkjob AI!

What Reddit Said About Cluely & My Experience

    Cluely Comment From Reddit

Before using Cluely personally, I turned to the internet to find some real user responses(mostly from Reddit). When I started digging into real stories for this cluely review, I found a mix of opinions. Some users say Cluely helps them feel more prepared:

One person said he cracked interviews with Cluely
people sharing their Cluely settings and experience
one user claimed they succeeded in one OA with Cluely

But others warn that it’s not a magic fix. Here are a few negative experiences I came across:

one user complained about wrong answers
one said Cluely can be seen and lost interviews with it
one wrote a long story expressing their disappointment

Still, I tried to convince myself that it can perform better after prompting and other settings, so I just tried over and over until the end of the whole free trial. In the following part, I will tell something true about its limits I came across personally, so you don't have to experience the same thing.

    Drawbacks and Limitations

Yes, the whole test process was smooth, the answers appeared quickly(almost instantly after request), and transcribing was excellent. I can just get to know everything said before from the other side during a meeting.

But during my tests, I noticed a few problems that I was not able to overcome easily:

    • The answers often sound vague and generic. Sometimes, I got a response that doesn’t really fit the question, almost like some GPT slop.

    • Cluely may get stuck in the middle of meetings or interviews. Just like one reddit user reported, I once came across the whole overlay stuck there, and there was nothing I could do but restart it.

    • The tool promotes surface-level intelligence. It helps with quick answers, but it doesn’t build deep reasoning skills.

    • The whole process can be seen in the basic starter mode.

Cluely Could Be Seen in the Task Manager
    • No automatic answer was generated during the tests. I had to type something or click a button to get an answer, and Cluely's AI just replied with way too brief sentences.

In my experience, Cluely works best as a support tool, not the best helper in live interviews. As for better choices(like Linkjob AI with its profound Interview copilot), I'll talk about them in the following parts.

    Cluely Pricing & Value

    Cost Overview

Cluely offers four main plans. I started with the free Starter plan because I just wanted to see how it worked. The free version gave me about five AI responses each day and somehow, it fell short in many aspects.

Here’s a quick table that breaks down the options:

    Plan

    Price (per month)

    Key Features

    Best For

    Starter

    Free

    5 AI responses/day(GPT-4.0-mini), unlimited note-taking

    Testing the basics

    Pro

    $20

Unlimited responses, premium AI(GPT-4.1 and Claude-3.7), priority support

Job seekers who want to practice

    Pro + Undetectability

    $75

Pro's all plus an undetectable mode

    Active job seekers

    Enterprise

    Custom

    Team features, SSO, shared playbooks

    Sales teams, organizations

    Value for Job Seekers

Tbh, I don't think using Cluely in interviews is a big help for people looking for jobs. From what I've seen, there's a chance it'll get detected, and the responses are just based on standard models, just like the answers I get when I use GPT for free.

But if you're after something to take notes, get transcribed text and record your spoken words in mock interviews, I reckon Cluey's got you covered. It integrates and operates quickly and smoothly.

    Alternatives to Cluely

    Interview Copilot and Sales Tools

When I started looking for other options besides Cluely, I found a bunch of tools that focus on creating live interview assistants that can master coding interviews, and also other smart sales assistants.

Linkjob AI stood out to me right away. Created as an AI live interview assistant specifically designed for the tech and finance fields. Linkjob AI can perfectly hide all its operating footprints and be completely invisible during screen sharing.

I also tried a few other platforms that people recommend a lot, and wrote them into an article talking about the best Cluely alternatives from different aspects. Here is the list from that article for Cluely alternatives.

    • Linkjob AI-For Interview Copilot Features

    • Fathom-For Free Meeting Notes and Summaries

    • SalesEcho-For Real-Time Sales Assistance

    • ScreenApp-For Screen Recording with AI Insights

Why Linkjob AI Star in Interview Copilot Choices

    Real-time Interview Copilot

During my tests and interviews, Linkjob AI did the same thing as what I planned for Cluely, and acted as a better one than those browser-based AI tools, as it runs independently, and with some mysterious mechanism, no interviewers could see me during full-screen sharing while using it.

For one thing, it was designed to be an AI copilot during the screen-sharing scenarios, and to be totally invisible as long as I act normally and type the necessary answers, or activate the global hotkey, instead of just hiting ctrl c and ctrl V.

Also, Linkjob AI helped me deliver some mock interviews. Its AI operated just like what I was hoping for, and popped great follow-up questions to help me get prepared. Some of its questions really showed up in my real interviews!

Their coding interview product is really powerful. It can capture and analyse what's on screen straight away, getting around screen sharing detection and active tab detection. Then, the AI gives me a full code analysis and straight-up answers.

I've seen loads of positive reviews of this product on Reddit. Best of all, it makes me completely invisible on major platforms like Codesignal, Hackerrank and Coderpad. At least I haven't found any bad reviews yet, and when I tried it in my own interviews, it went unnoticed.

    Cluely Review: Final Thoughts

    Who Should Use Cluely

I think Cluely works best for people who want a little extra help before an interview. I recommend Cluely for job seekers who want to practice with realistic scenarios and get instant feedback. It’s also helpful if you need to keep track of notes during a conversation. I’ve seen students and early-career professionals benefit the most. They often left comments sharing their use of Cluely to build confidence and learn how to answer tough questions.

When to Avoid Cluely and Turn to Other Choices

From the tests, I’ve learned that Cluely isn’t right for every situation.

If I have to use Cluely during live interviews, I might run into trouble. So I avoid Cluely when companies use strict monitoring or proctoring software. They can spot my overlays or suspicious processes right away. And that's why I found other real-time interview tools helpful and provided more accurate help in my job seeking journey.

In short, I’ve found that Cluely can help with interview prep, but it’s not worth risking your reputation or breaking the rules. Use it wisely or turn to other alternatives that can provide better undetectability.

    FAQ

Is Cluely safe to use during live interviews?

I don’t think Cluely is completely safe in live interviews. Some users reported being caught using it and failing their interviews. Some other AI live interview helper may be a better choice.

Can Cluely help me with technical interviews?

Yes, Cluely gives prompts for coding and technical questions. But I found it too brief and felt quite AI-generated. Some friends of mine also said that Cluely got stuck in the middle of their OAs.

What happens if I use Cluely in the real interviews?

I tried just once, and since there was a need for sharing the screen, its overlay got spotted right away, so I just failed. Some people shared the same experience on Reddit, but some people said they didn't. It's hard to tell.
